Two Healers. One Calling. A Clinic Built on a Promise.
Some clinics are built on business plans. Two Tan Wellness was built on something far older — a family inheritance, a husband and wife's shared conviction, and two separate journeys that were always meant to meet.
The Name That Carries Two Meanings
Two Tan Wellness takes its name from two sources.
The first is personal: Tan is the family name of Dr. Bella Tan, who co-founded the original clinic — Two Tan Acupuncture & Rehabilitation — in Kuala Lumpur in 2001, alongside her late father, Dr. Michael Tan. Father and daughter. Two Tans. One purpose.
The second is medicinal: Er Chen Tang (二陈汤) — a classical herbal formula used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for centuries to resolve phlegm, dispel dampness, and restore the body's internal balance. A formula that embodies everything this clinic believes in: working with the body, not against it.
Dr. Bella Tan — When Medicine Saves Your Own Father
Dr. Bella Tan did not choose TCM. It found her — through the most difficult moment of her family's life.
Growing up in Malaysia, she watched her father, Dr. Michael Tan, practice acupuncture and herbal medicine with a dedication that drew patients from across the region. His gift was quiet and certain. But Bella's heart, at the time, belonged to music.
Then, in 1997, her father suffered a severe stroke.
The surgeons presented the family with a consent form. The procedure carried a 50% chance of death on the operating table, and a 50% chance of permanent vegetative state. They waited in the corridor. They signed nothing.
Hours before the surgery, a TCM herbal formula intervened. The surgery was called off.
What followed was nine months of daily acupuncture. Her father went from crawling on the floor — to standing on his own feet — to returning to his own clinic to practice again.
"In that moment, I understood. There is something in TCM that the world has not yet fully seen. I decided I would spend my life finding out what it was."
Dr. Bella enrolled at Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine — one of China's most prestigious TCM institutions. She completed her Bachelor's degree (2000), her Master's degree with a clinical research thesis on stroke rehabilitation using acupuncture and herbal medicine (2005), and her PhD in Acupuncture and Moxibustion (2013). Eleven years of full-course university training. She went on to lecture at Malaysian TCM colleges and International INTI university, appear on national television, and build a clinic that saw up to 35 patients a day.
She is today the only PhD-certified TCM doctor practicing in Nova Scotia.
Dr. Kent Eee — The Boy Who Watched Patients Cry With Relief
Dr. Kent Eee grew up inside a healing practice before he ever studied one.
His father had been practicing Traditional Chinese Medicine in Malaysia for over 80 years — so trusted by his community that patients travelled long distances simply to sit in his clinic. As a child, Kent watched something few people ever witness: men and women arriving hunched with pain, and leaving with tears in their eyes — not from suffering, but from relief.
By age 10, his father had begun practicing from their home. By 14, Kent was accompanying him every week — learning acupuncture fundamentals, studying herbology, observing the ancient technique of wet cupping that his father performed with a confidence born of decades. The knowledge entered him not through textbooks, but through watching, listening, and being present in a room where healing happened every day.
High school interrupted his apprenticeship. But the calling did not leave.
After graduating, Dr. Kent enrolled at Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in China — one of the country's leading TCM institutions — for a five-year Bachelor's programme. To deepen his practical knowledge, he worked after hours at a traditional Chinese herbal pharmacy, learning to identify, prepare, and understand hundreds of medicinal herbs by hand.
In 2012, driven to master his craft further, he completed a Master's degree in Acupuncture and Moxibustion at Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine — graduating in 2015. He was subsequently invited to serve as an attending acupuncturist in the Acupuncture Department of Malaysia General Hospital, one of the country's most respected medical institutions.
When Their Paths Crossed — And Everything Clicked
In 2008, Dr. Kent met Dr. Bella.
Two practitioners. Two family legacies in TCM. Two people who had each, in their own way, given everything to this medicine.
Together, they discovered a calling that neither had anticipated: Traditional Chinese Medicine could reach children that conventional medicine had struggled to help — children with Autism, ADHD, Cerebral Palsy, Epilepsy, and developmental challenges. The work was demanding. The learning curve was steep. The results stopped them in their tracks.
Over the years that followed, Dr. Kent and Dr. Bella supported the recovery of more than 100 children with special needs — watching families exhale for the first time in years.
Their work drew national attention. They were invited to appear on Malaysia's TV2 and TV7, sharing TCM knowledge with a wider public. After coming to Canada, their reach extended further — including a feature interview on the American pbn-Podcast.
They became partners in practice. Then partners in life.
Nova Scotia — A New Community. The Same Promise.
In 2020, Dr. Kent and Dr. Bella made a decision together: to bring what they had spent their lives building to West Bedford, Nova Scotia.
Not a franchise. Not a concept. A continuation — of two family traditions that had been healing people for a combined 80+ years.
Two Tan Wellness opened its doors with a simple commitment: to offer the Halifax community access to authentic, physician-level TCM care — the kind that had helped a father walk again after a stroke, and helped over a hundred children find a way forward.
"Healing starts from a touch. That has always been our belief — and it always will be."
Today, Two Tan Wellness is the only clinic in Nova Scotia led by fully degree-qualified TCM university graduates. Dr. Kent and Dr. Bella, together with a team of five additional certified practitioners, continue to serve West Bedford and the greater Halifax region — one patient, one treatment, one genuine conversation at a time.
